Healthy Relationships
Designed for people living with HIV, this 5-session group helps individuals discuss their concerns about relationships with friends, family members, and sexual partners. Participants have the opportunity to discuss their worries about disclosure of their HIV status and how to communicate to others regarding issues around HIV and safer sex. Participants view video segments from popular films to learn how to improve their communication skills.
Each group is structured so that participants are similar in gender and sexual orientation (i.e. heterosexual women, heterosexual men, and men who have sex with other men). The groups are facilitated by two HIV-positive peer educators who are able to share their own experiences. Participants are asked to return 60 days after the final session for a “booster” in order to assess the impact of the series. Referrals for the groups can come from any HIV services provider.
Healthy Living
This individual level intervention is designed for persons living with HIV. It consists of 6 sessions facilitated by an HIV-positive peer educator. These sessions are one-on-one and occur in the site that is most comfortable for the participant (i.e. home or office). The sessions focus on stress and coping and risky sexual and drug using behavior. The overall purpose of the intervention is to help people establish long-term goals for themselves and to develop better coping strategies to reduce HIV related stress. Participants are asked to return 60 days after completing the final session for a “booster” in order to assess the impact of the intervention. Referrals for the individual level intervention can come from any HIV services provider.
